Chair's Message

Dear friends,

Patients deserve expert medical care delivered with compassion, respect and sensitivity. Every physician, employee and volunteer at Providence Portland Medical Center strives to provide top-quality health services to every patient, every time.

It's an honor to serve as chair for the Providence Portland Medical Foundation Board of Directors. It is the foundation that connects with the community to generate philanthropic support. This support allows Providence to provide the level of excellence that our patients and their families deserve.

I've been associated with Providence for many years, and my involvement with the foundation is a passion. I believe in what Providence stands for and in its commitment to helping those with cancer. I've known so many patients who have battled this disease. Some are no longer with us, but thanks to the team at Providence, many are still a part of my life. This is what keeps me excited, enthused and engaged.

At the conclusion of 2009, Providence Portland Medical Foundation successfully raised the $40 million to support construction of Providence Cancer Center building. We accomplished this feat because of the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations who believed in our dream. The world-class research conducted within this "Center of Hope" sets it apart and inspires all of us. We will continue to raise the funds necessary to further the work of our dedicated scientists.

Although cancer research dominates our philanthropic focus on this campus, we also are pleased to support the work of Providence Heart and Vascular Institute and Providence Brain Institute. The foundation also has many other programs it supports. If you have an area of interest, please contact us and we'll find a way to partner.

Great things are happening at Providence Portland Medical Center and the foundation is playing a key role. It's exciting to be a part of the process. Thanks for your involvement.
