The Nun Study - Educators in Life …and in Death
Sister Catherine Bertrand, SSND
This is a very special opportunity to hear about the Nun Study for Brain Research and its implications for everyday living. The Nun Study is considered by experts on aging to be one of the most innovative efforts to answer questions about who gets Alzheimer's disease and why.
It began in 1986 and hundreds of nuns from the School Sisters of Notre Dame have donated their brains to the research after death. As provincial leader in her congregation, Sister Catherine served as the liaison to the Nun Study. This included moving the study to the University of Minnesota and engaging in the conversation regarding the next phase of this work.
Sister Catherine, a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, has degrees in behavioral science, ministry and counseling, with ongoing work in organizational planning and facilitation.
She served as a vocation director for her own congregation, associate director in the Archdiocese of St.Paul, Minn. and as executive director of the National Religious Vocation Conference. Known nationally and internationally, she is a speaker, writer, and facilitator. Sister Catherine is an excellent and engaging speaker. Come and meet Sister Catherine and be inspired by her energy and wisdom.
